Aether, Veil & Soul Essence

The hidden current beneath all power.

Magic in Forlazia is not divided by source so much as by method. Every miracle, spell, omen, transformation, and cosmic act bends the same underlying fabric: Aetherflow.

Aetherflow

The current of existence.

Aetherflow binds gods, mortals, nature, memory, and the world itself. It is neither wholly divine nor wholly natural. It can be worshiped, studied, harmonized with, remembered, stolen, refined, or forced into patterns.

The danger lies not merely in using it, but in disrupting the balance between its forms.

Divine

Miracles, sacred authority, protection, renewal, judgment, and the power exchanged between worshiper and god.

Arcane

Structured formulas that refine raw Aetherflow into controlled, repeatable spells and elemental patterns.

Natural

The living current within beast, forest, storm, season, growth, death, and ecological balance.

Cosmic

The immense forces of stars, void, gravity, time, distance, and realities that lie beyond mortal scale.

The Cycle of Soul Essence

Every death is a contested inheritance.

When a being dies, its Soul Essence divides between the divine and mortal worlds.

The Divine Claim

Part of the essence is drawn beyond the Veil into the Aether. Faith determines its shape: souls remembered by gods strengthen them, while those forgotten may sink into silence.

The Mortal Claim

Part remains tethered to memory, place, or power. This lingering essence can fuel magic, preserve echoes of the dead, awaken land, or become trapped in relics and ruins.

Five Ways to Bend the Current

Traditions of Aetherflow

Heralds

Offer Soul Essence through faith and channel divine Aetherflow as miracle, command, protection, and revelation.

Aetherbound

Reject divine intermediaries and seize cosmic Aetherflow directly, enduring forces that mortal bodies were never meant to contain.

Spellweavers

Refine Aetherflow into formulas, structures, and repeatable arcane patterns. Their control is powerful, but instability can produce violent misfires.

Wildcallers

Cooperate with the living current, returning Soul Essence to storm, beast, soil, root, and season rather than imposing rigid control.

Lorekeepers

Draw wisdom from echoes left by the dead and ancient, recovering forgotten spells, wards, histories, and truths.

The Cost of Imbalance

Excessive mortal extraction can weaken gods, destabilize magic, drain nature, tear the Veil, and prevent the dead from passing on.
